In Ancient Rome, the pig was generally sacrificed to the Gods: in Egypt to OSIRIS, god of vegetation, in Greece to Demeter, goddess of agriculture and to Ceres, goddess of the harvest in Ancient Rome.
The pig is probably the animal with the richest symbolic content.
