Bees symbolize all vital principles, and embody the soul. The Greeks used the bee as the symbol of Demeter, their goddess of the soul en route to hell; the bee also symbolizes the soul that flies away from the body.
We find it in Cashmere and Bengal, in many South American native traditions, as well as in Central Asia and Siberia.
Plato believed that the souls of the righteous are reincarnated as bees.
