Prince Gautama was born approximately 2500 years ago.
Siddhartha Gautama, spiritual teacher from Ancient India, was the founder of Buddhism. Siddhartha was born in Lumbini and raised in the small kingdom or principality of Kapilvastu (known as Nepal today), and lived for 80 years.
Buddha means “awakened to the truth”; Siddharta means “he who has accomplished his objectives.
Gautama is also known as Sakyamuni or Shakyamuni (“sage of the Shakyas”).
