Platinum is one of the most sought-after metal on earth; for a long time it used to be cheaper than silver, but for over a century it has been more expensive than gold.
Platinum was used thousands of years ago, but the element was only isolated scientifically in 1735. It has a silver-grey, white-grey or white colour with a metallic lustre. It is inert, resistant to corrosion and tarnish. It is more dense than pure gold and about twice as dense as silver, it has a high melting point of 1773°C. Platinum was very difficult to work with, but with the development of new techniques jewellers and goldsmiths became more apt at using it.
It can be found in alluvial and glacial deposits, most commonly in grains and more rarely in nuggets. It is produced in South Africa, Canada, United States, Russia, Australia, Colombia, Peru…
Creating an aura of mystery, platinum captivates imaginations and fascinates. It attracts the universal life forces and allows the energy to flow.
A rare, precious and beautiful metal.
